Girls’ Basketball Blogs
Waukee basketball has established a strong presence in the Central Iowa Metro League (CIML). Both the boys’ and girls’ programs have experienced success since joining the league in 2006. Conference titles and state tournament appearances appear on both program’s resumes’ since transitioning to the large school classification. In 2015 the girls program made its first appearance in a championship game and won the 5A Girls State Basketball championship. The girls program has been a fixture at the state tournament as Warrior teams have played at Wells Fargo arena, the home of the state tournament, 7 of the last 8 years and a total of 13 times in school history.
The Warriors play in the state-of-the-art Waukee Fieldhouse. The Fieldhouse made its debut for the 2012-13 season and includes a video replay board, a center-hung scoreboard and new locker rooms for both programs. The 2500 seat facility is recognized by many as the top high school basketball venue in the state of Iowa.
The student-athletes who participate in basketball have shown great commitment to their respective programs both in and off season. Both programs play highly-competitive high school schedules. During the summer, in their off-season, they travel to various team camps throughout the Midwest. Combined with “Warrior Power”, the strength and conditioning program that athletes utilize during the summer, both boy and girl players are committed to being the best they can be.
