Boys Soccer Wins 3A Title

The Waukee Boys Soccer team defeated Bettendorf 3-0 in the title match to win the third state championship in program history.  Waukee also won state titles in 1999 and 2001 as a 1A program.

The 2018 team entered the state tournament as the #8 seed after defeating Dowling Catholic in the sub-state final.  They defeated top seed West Des Moines Valley in the quarter-finals and then beat defending state champion Iowa City West in the semi-final match.   In the championship, the Warriors scored three first half goals and cruised to the victory.  It avenged a 1-0 loss to Bettendorf in the season opener.

Four Waukee players were named to the all tournament team led by junior Lucas Gutierrez who was voted captain.  Other all tournament selections were senior Connor Wallace, junior Justin Crawmer and junior Wesley Sanders.  In addition, head coach Carlos Acebey was named State Coach of the Year.
