Waukee High School Students Compete at Iowa Thespian Festival

This past Thursday, November 8 – Saturday, November 10, 58 students convened at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls for the Iowa Thespian Festival; Iowa is a member chapter of the International Thespian Society, and many states also hold state festivals. Our students engaged in workshops and classes, attended productions, auditioned for scholarships, gave technical theatre presentations, and competed in performance events.

Here is a breakdown of our trip by the numbers:

  • 58 9th-12th grade students attended
  • 17 students competed in Individual Events

10 students placed in their Individual Event categories out of 200 overall competitors

  • Natalie Grote, Sophomore, 1st place: Solo Musical Theatre
  • Josh Weber & Jayla Joseph, Juniors, 1st place: Duet Acting
  • Ayla Schiller, Junior, 1st place: Costume Design
  • Paige Fahrenkrug, Sophomore, 2nd place: Monologue
  • Holly Rankin, Junior, 2nd place: Costume Design
  • Anna Albaugh, Josh Weber, Jordan Kinney, 2nd place: Group Improvisation
  • Adrieanah Hamand, Freshman, 2nd place: Stage Management
  • students scored high enough to qualify for the International Thespian Festival

  • student, Caleb Neese, represented our Troupe in the All-State Cabaret and performed in a mainstage production with a group of students he met the day prior
  • seniors auditioned for college scholarships in front of a panel of 15 college representatives and received multiple talent-based scholarship offers over the weekend

We had a wonderful weekend of learning and fellowship.  We were proud to represent our district well!
